How Much Calcium Do I Need?
The recommended daily allowance for calcium is 1000 mg elemental calcium. Be careful – many calcium supplements may just tell you how much calcium carbonate or calcium citrate is in the pill, not the actual elemental calcium. Our label shows the real elemental calcium amount of 100% of the RDA.
Of course many of you may be getting some calcium from your diet each day. Some studies show this could be as much as 500mg for many people. It is hard to get all of your daily calcium needs from your diet every day, and there have been recent reports linking dairy calcium (the most common way you can get calcium) to prostate cancer. A calcium supplement is the right solution to help you get to 1000mg or more, but only if you take the one with the right patented formula for maximum benefit.
Women who have recently dropped hormones due to their potential harmful side effects need to be careful. Many studies have indicated that these women only needed 1000mg when they were on hormones, but may need as much as 500 mg more without the hormones to maintain their bone density. While amounts over 2000mg are not proven to be marginally effective, many women may need to take up to 1000mg a day in supplement form to combine with their dietary calcium and ensure no bone density loss.
Our bottle shows a recommended daily dose of four chewable pills to achieve 100% RDA without any dietary sources. In reality many of our customers only take 2 or 3 a day, depending on their diet, because they are getting some calcium each day from food.
Watch out for misleading claims from leading drug companies who use calcium
carbonate – such as “the most calcium in one pill you can buy.”
Because calcium carbonate has more elemental calcium per gram than calcium
citrate, you can squeeze more elemental calcium into a pill that way. This
has nothing to do with the actual strength of the calcium itself, and in
reality many studies have pointed to calcium citrate (the kind used in BTB
Vitamins) as the most absorbable form of calcium. Calcium carbonate
also depends on stomach acids to be absorbed, which is why we find the latest
attempts to combine calcium carbonate with chewable antacids a less than
effective approach to achieving maximum calcium! Highly absorbable calcium
citrate in the right amount to provide you 100% of your daily elemental
calcium is part of the key to the success of BTB Vitamins,
which provides “America’s Best Solution For High Calcium In
A Daily Multivitamin!”
